The Special Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Disabilities, Amb. Mrs. Nene Bassey has visited the Friends of Ekemini Iban who are people living with disabilities during the April edition of Ekemini Iban Prayer summit.
Addressing the people living with disabilities, Amb. Nene Bassey advised them not to see themselves as being inferior in the society, rather they should hold to their faith as she will try her possible best to look into their welfare, She admonished them to hold on to God as more good things are coming their ways.
Amb. Nene used the medium to applaud Gov. Umo Eno for his leadership prowess by taking steps to salvage the suffering of people of disability community.
She advised them not to let their disability to barrier what was embedded in them, rather they should use their talents to do something in their hands so as to earn a living in the society.
Gov's aide used the opportunity to pour encomium on Lady (Mrs) Edna for what she's doing for the disability community, "I am humbled by seeing what an individual is doing for the disability community, May God continue to bless you, Lady Mrs Edna E. D. Udeme" Amb. Nene Bassey prayed.
Consequently, The chairman of the joint Association of People Living with Disabilities, Mr. Anietie Silas Jackson reiterated that things have been happening all the time in the disability community, and they should not expect miracles to be happening immediately, he advised them to maintain their integrity in the society.
Mr. Jackson promised to partner with Lady Mrs Edna to continue to help the people living with disabilities, because she is a woman that can do mighty things.
He assured them that the people living with disabilities would have a sense of belonging in the society
Also speaking was the secretary of joint Association of people living with disabilities, thanked the government of Gov. Umo Bassey Eno for making the disabilities to have voice in Akwa Ibom State.
He prayed God to bless Lady Mrs Edna for taking good care of the disabilities.
In her own part, the Progenitor of Ekemini Iban Akwa, Lady Mrs Edna E. D Udeme thanked the August visitor for finding time to visit the people living with disabilities who are also tagged friends of Ekemini Iban. She stated that she is a friend to all the disabilities,
Lady Edna Said that she decided to take care of the physically challenged persons when she witnessed an accident at kaduna junction which claimed the life of a blind beggar who was begging at that junction .
Mrs. Edna E. D. Udeme while highlighting her achievements so far in the lives of the physically challenged persons, she reiterated that she have been giving about 50 physically challenged persons monthly stipend every second Saturday of the month which have been helping them to live a better life within their environ, and also sent some of the blinds to school in which they are doing well in their academics today.
She called on the government and well meaning citizens to come and partner with her in order to continue to Carter for the well-being of the physically challenged persons.
Edna specifically thanked the SA to Governor on people living with disabilities, Mrs. Nene Bassey for coming to visit friends of Ekemini Iban, and reassured her of her timely intervention to any issue related to people living with disabilities.
She added that Ekemini Iban takes place every second Saturday of the month from 6am to 12 noon... Those who are interested are invited to attend.
High points of the event were the presentation of White cane to the friends of Ekemini Iban who blind, offering of prayers to the people with disabilities.
